I LOVE featuring real, local weddings on the blog - they are so full of inspiration and it's great to get advice from brides who have only recently finished their wedding planning journey. Today I am delighted to share with you Matt and Emma's elegant mansion house wedding in Hertfordshire. Photographed by local wedding photographer Becky Harley who has captured the couple beautifully. Let's find out a bit more about the couple and how they planned their wedding in less than a year.
Tell us your engagement story?
We met at university 10 years ago and had been together for 7 years when Matt decided it was time to pop the question! I returned home from work, having finished for the Christmas break. Matt had prepared a lovely dinner and handed me a Christmas card. I thought it was nothing unusual but inside he had written a poem asking me to look for something on the Christmas tree. After searching I found a personalised bauble encasing a ribbon that had the words 'Emma will you marry me?' and a gorgeous engagement ring.
When and Where did you get married?
Our wedding was in November. The service was at the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph (Waltham Cross) followed by a reception at the De Vere Theobalds Estate in Hertfordshire.
Did you have a wedding theme?
No, we wanted it be classic and elegant but incorporating our characters.
How long did you plan the wedding for and what was your budget?
We planned for 11 months and our budget was £25,000
Where did you go on Honeymoon?
We went to South Africa!
What advice do you have for any current brides to be?
'Take time out to think about what you and husband to be really want.'
'Be prepared to get creative to save some money and to add a personal touch.'
'Use and research local suppliers, finding ones that come with good reviews saves a lot of stress.'
'Try to relax and not to worry about the little things on the day. Your guests won't know the finer details of your plans so if something doesn't go quite right it is likely that they won't even notice. So just relax and enjoy the day.'
Thanks Matt and Emma for your advice, some really great tips and some amazing photos of your special day.
