As we head into autumn the wedding fayre season is just beginning. Everywhere you look you will see an advertisement for a wedding fayre or wedding venue open day.  Are these events really worth giving up your weekend for or are they just one big sales pitch? Follow our guide below to find out if a wedding fayre is the place for you.

Have you booked your venue?

If you are at the start of your planning and are still looking for the perfect venue then make the most of venue open events. Do some research into the type of venue you are looking for i.e a barn, a hotel or a mansion house and compose a list of your favourites. Take a look at the venues websites and social media pages and find out when they are hosting their open events.

When you attend a venue open day the venue will be set up as it would be for a wedding – giving you a great opportunity to see how it would look. These open events are a less pressured way of viewing the venue as there will be lots of other couples taking a look around too, if you don’t like it you can just head home unnoticed. If you love it then try and chat to the wedding coordinator and arrange a date when you can return to have a more thorough chat about costings and dates.

If you have already booked your venue but still need to book other wedding suppliers for your day then it is worth attending your own venues open event. The venue will often invite their recommended suppliers to exhibit. These suppliers will usually know the venue well, and will be able to give you advice on how things can work on the day. They are often great people to book for your wedding.

Do you have a wedding style in mind?

If you have a distinct wedding style then make sure you choose the wedding fayre that is the closest match. Are you planning an elegant, luxury wedding? Choose a luxury wedding fayre or a wedding fayre at a luxury venue. Do you want a more rustic feel to your day? Find a festival / boho wedding fayre. Want a wedding with a vintage influence? Choose a vintage wedding fayre. Whatever your style – there will be a wedding fayre for you! Choosing the right fayre will mean you will meet the right wedding suppliers who can perfectly capture your vision.

Do you need ideas for your wedding day?

Wedding fayres are great places to be inspired. You will be able to see amazing displays of flowers, sit in wedding cars, taste wedding cakes and hear wedding bands. Every stand will have something new to offer you and you will find lots of great ideas to inspire you with your wedding planning.

Do you still need to book suppliers for your wedding?

I cannot recommend enough meeting your wedding suppliers before you book them. You can find out a lot of information online or via social media, but you will get a real feel for the person and their business if you meet them in person. You want to find suppliers that are passionate about what they do and that you get along with. You want to know that you can trust them with your special day, so really take the time at a wedding fayre to chat with them. Decisions don’t have to be made right there and then – why not arrange a follow up appointment with them where you can go through finer details.

Have you done your research?

If you have chosen a wedding fayre or open day to attend then do some research. Find out who will be exhibiting on the day and look them up. Check out their portfolios, prices lists and social media pages. If you like what you see then go to the fayre prepared to book. Many wedding suppliers will have special offers and discounts on the day, which will save you some money.

Why not make it a whole day event?

Make the most of the day of the wedding fayre and turn it into a day out. Why not invite your bridesmaids along for a girls day out and have food and drinks together when you have finished. If you make the fayre part of a day out then even if you don’t get much out of the fayre itself you will have had a good time.

In conclusion I think that if you have researched and found the best fayre for you then they are definitely worth attending. Go fully prepared and you will come away feeling inspired, having saved some money and perhaps with some free gifts as well!
