The inspiration

The vision for this shoot was elegance with a dusty blue colour palette; as blue is a divine colour and fits in with weddings all year round. The light and airy images captured by Victoria Mitchell really added to the overall effect, a fresh and relaxed style.

the venue

Due to the pandemic, outdoor wedding planning is becoming more popular; The Barn at Brookend Farm is able to offer outdoor weddings within their woods, orchards, meadows and beside the lake, giving you multiple options for your wedding day. In particular, the orchard provided a stunning backdrop for the day.

The Table styling

Beth from Miss Carlysle and Co, and Kate from Wren Ark worked their magic with tableware and using prop hires from Wren Prop Hire. Providing a wonderful example of how you can style your reception tables without excess, which is a win-win for your wedding day. Simple blue & grey table runners alongside tall blue candles on clear candlesticks are such a wonderful addition to any table, giving off a warm glow in the evening of your wedding day. Dusty blue napkins were added to capture the essence of the shoot, the look was then completed with the silver cutlery and silver-rimmed chargers.

The florals

The table was topped with some beautiful foliage and florals which were draped through the middle, reflecting an organic minimalist look. This look was then mirrored in the bouquet, with the final look organic and lose in its shaping. The florals throughout drew from the simple, yet elegant look of the rest of the shoot, adding a dreamy palette of blue.

The bride and groom

The bride and groom were styled with a simple elegance in mind, creating a touch of drama with the bridal gown’s movements. The groom’s suit was picked with an undertone of blue which tied him in to the rest of the styling. The bridal hair and makeup was approached in a less is more way, capturing the wild nature of the location.

Top Tips for an outdoor wedding

  1. Have a Plan B: Especially in England, the weather is not always on our side. Rain is a possibility. Have you considered renting a tent? A tipi or a marquee? Just in case! Gives your guests the chance to remain cosy and warm if the weather turns.

  2. Embrace Nature: Choose a beautiful setting such as the Barn at Brookend, being able to decorate the tree branches and surrounding areas. You have zero pressure with an outdoor wedding, the scenery speaks for itself.

  3. Vision: Create a vision and follow it. From the colour palette to the style.

  4. Tell Your Guests What to Expect: Gives them the chance to dress correctly, no heels, and don’t forget a jacket!
